Crazy! The value of ‘Treasure’ from 1 Shipwreck in the Indonesian Sea Translucent IDR 300 Billion

Jakarta

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) revealed the economic potential of a sinking ship loading object (BMKT) like sea treasure could reach US$ 20 million or Rp. 307 billion (exchange rate of Rp. 15,365). This was disclosed by the Director of Maritime Services of the KKP, Miftahul Huda.

“If asked how much, if at one point the economic value can be US$ 20 million from one ship, we can check what is in it. If it is used as a marine tourism location, that one point can grow US$ 3-4 million in one year,” he told reporters at the KKP office, Jakarta, Monday (13/3/2023).

Huda explained that currently, his party has recorded more than 1,100 points of sinking ships across Indonesia. Within that point, there are usually several shipwrecks. Therefore, the potential economic value obtained can be even greater.

As for the objects obtained from lifting the sunken ship in the form of ceramics, relics of sword hilts made of gold, and others. However, he said that each ship has a different object.

“What we have raised is like the one in the gallery. There are ceramics, relics of sword hilts made of gold, that is the dominant example that exists,” he explained.

Furthermore, he mentioned several locations with quite high economic potential, such as in the Java Sea.

“And if one point earlier, which was raised in Cirebon, the economic value was even up to US$ 28 million, one point. However, not all of them have the same value. Some are smaller, some are bigger,” he explained.

Huda said, until now his party had appointed BMKT at 10 points. However, he added, not all BMKTs had to be appointed.

If the BMKT cannot be appointed, that point can be used as a marine tourism location. This of course can also improve the economy of the surrounding coastal communities.
