A motorist was arrested on Wednesday night after a crazy ride through Helmond. When officers were able to force the driver to stop after a chase, it turned out that the driver’s license had expired for more than a year. The driver stank of alcohol, could barely stand on his feet and spoke with double tongue.
Officers went after the motorist around 2 a.m. after they saw him tearing through a bend in Azalealaan. It looked like the driver also ran a red light. They signaled the driver to stop.

The driver stopped the car on the Piet Heinstraat. But when the officers got out to address the motorist, he took off at full throttle. Officers give chase. Other units were also informed of the situation via the control room.
The suspect raced through Alderman Van Wellaan. The officers lost sight of the car for a moment, but encountered the car again a short time later in the Alderman Ebbenlaan. There, another motorist, who kept to the speed limit, unintentionally stopped the motorist.
New pursuit
The suspect then turned the car around in the parking lot of football stadium De Braak to continue on the Bakelsedijk in the direction of Dierdonk and from there to the N279. The officers lost the driver there due to the high speed, more than fifty kilometers per hour above the speed limit. Other units soon had the suspect back in the picture.
After another pursuit by Dierdonk, the suspect surrendered. The driver refused to cooperate with a breathalyzer test. The suspect will be heard on Thursday and must answer to court later. The car has been seized.
