Crazy Monkey in Japan Who Injured Nearly 50 People Arrested Then Executed

Jakarta

A bird monkey in Japan is crazy. He had terrorized the residents of a city but was arrested and executed.

Reported BBC, Thursday (28/7/2022), a member of a group of monkeys has been terrorizing the residents of a city in Japan for weeks. He has injured nearly 50 people in Yamaguchi.

The male primate was found in the high school grounds on Tuesday (26/7) evening by a specially commissioned hunter. The monkey was identified as one of the animals responsible for the successive attacks there.

Authorities have been hunting the monkeys since attacks began on adults and children about three weeks ago. Most of the victims suffered injuries, in the form of scratches and minor bites.

There are still incidents reported and the search continues for other gang members, an official at the local agriculture department told AFP.

“Eyewitnesses describe monkeys of different sizes, and even after one has been caught, we have reports of new attacks,” he said.

Monkey those arrested are estimated to be four years old and about half a meter tall. Japanese monkeys are common in most countries and in some areas are considered pests, eat plants, and sometimes enter homes.

However, the attack on Yamaguchi was unusual. “It’s rare to see so many attacks in such a short period of time,” a city official said before the latest arrests.

“Initially, only children and women were attacked. Recently, the elderly and adult men have also been targeted,” they added.

Previous attempts to catch animals with traps failed. Police patrols set up in early July have been unsuccessful so far.

Once the species is categorized as vulnerable, monkey Japan experienced a recent population boom.

This has led to serious conflicts with people, according to research from Yamagata University. Changes in human behavior and the forest environment may be one of the causes.
