Traders went crazy, put an ungodly price on meat for the holiday
Traders went completely crazy. Ungodly lamb prices for St. George’s Day. On Easter, the shoulder went up, but in the week before Easter, the big food chains sold it for BGN 20 per kilogram.
Now, 6 days before St. George’s Day, the favorite meat went up again, already at 24 BGN per kilogram.
The co-chairman of the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association Simeon Karakolev tried to calm the Bulgarians.
I assume that the price will calm down in the store network as well, between BGN 20 and 24, that’s what I’m observing. This is the mass price that is offered for a whole lamb, respectively for a shoulder,” Karakolev told Bulgaria ON AIR.
According to him, the consumer wants to buy Bulgarian, but some traders outsource to dishonest slaughterhouses and are misleading. “We saw it before Easter, over 30 tons of lamb was banned,” recalled the guest.
All this happens under the eyes of a control person, said the co-chairman of the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association. Regarding the cheaper Macedonian lamb, he added that every country outside the EU sells cheaper.
