“Crazy Helmet Designs for Miami Grand Prix 2022-2023: Formula 1 Drivers Get Creative”

Miami inspires Formula 1 drivers to create the craziest helmet designs. Here is a first impression of what the Grand Prix drivers have come up with for the Grand Prix in Florida.

Miami GP 2022: At the premiere of the Formula 1 race at Hard Rock Stadium, McLaren driver Lando Norris wore a helmet that looked like a basketball. The Englishman has also come up with something special for the 2023 edition, and it stayed with the ball – now his head protection looks like a beach ball.

The Englishman shows great attention to detail. He wittily changed the usual warnings on a beach ball: “Warning! To be used only under the supervision of Lando Norris. Only to be used in car racing. This is not a toy. Don’t dive into the water. Close visor before use. Do not use outside of Miami, Florida. Please do not throw, dribble, over-inflate or kick. Do not use as a swimming device. The owner of this helmet is a founding member of the LN4 Miami Beach Ball Club. If found, please return Lando Norris.”

Lando Norris: «We were pretty happy with basketball and wanted to go one better. That’s how we got into water polo. I play golf, so I briefly considered designing along those lines. But Alex Albon and I have the same helmet designer, so I knew what to expect.”

For Williams driver Logan Sargant, Miami is almost the perfect home race: he not only comes from Florida, but also from Fort Lauderdale, just 50 kilometers north of downtown Miami.

For the USA GP, Sargeant offered the full Miami program: palm trees, sea, sunset, neon lights, art deco buildings, and of course the Stars and Stripes must not be missing.

Haas driver Nico Hülkenberg says: “If Miami, then palm trees.” There are said to be 50,000 palm trees in downtown Miami alone, and so the German took inspiration from them for his new helmet.

Williams driver Alex Albon is a passionate golfer. So his helmet design looks like an oversized golf ball. Alex: “Golf means life.” It also means love: The Thai-British is with the Chinese professional golf player Lily Muni.
