Talk & reading with Germany’s most famous prison doctor & actor
Joe Bausch is well known as an actor from the Cologne crime series Tatort. There he plays the forensic pathologist Dr. Joseph Roth. He also worked for over 32 years as a prison doctor in Germany’s largest high-security prison in Werl.
Joe Bausch is not only successful as an actor and doctor, but also as an author. His books “Knast”, “Gangsterblues” and “Maxima Culpa” are Spiegel bestsellers. In his latest book “Verrücktes Blut”, which was published on May 30, 2024, he speaks brutally honestly for the first time about the time in which he had to experience the deepest humiliation, violence and assault.
With this book, Joe Bausch will be on a talk-reading tour with Dr. Tino Grosche on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 7:30 p.m. in the Wittenberg Culture and Festival Hall.
Bausch talks about growing up as a farmer’s son in the post-war period and how the sometimes traumatic experiences of his childhood and youth shaped him. With all the harshness that his father considers necessary and that he himself had experienced, he raised his son to be the heir to the farm in the early 1950s. But he doesn’t want to be a farmer and wants to get away from the Westerwald, away from the world of narrow-mindedness and deceit.
Of course, his story is also shaped and peppered with the experiences from his more than 30 years as a prison doctor, which he will also report on in all its brutality that evening. Additional information: Admission: from 6:30 p.m.
