That’s what you call a bumpy start: At the start of the season, skater hockey Bundesliga club Crash Eagles Kaarst lost 6:9 at home to the Duisburg Ducks, the game against the IVA Rhein Main Patriots, who were plagued by injuries and corona cases, was cancelled. In order not to run after the music from the beginning, there should be something countable on the double match day. But that could well prove to be a challenge. Because on Saturday (4 p.m.) the Bissendorfer Panthers will come to the Stadtparkhalle on Pestalozzistraße. The Lower Saxony will still be without their own hall until May 7th – the Panthers already played their “home games” in Iserlohn in the last (mini) season – but things are going well abroad too: the away games in Essen (May 7th :4) and Augsburg (4:3 after penalty shoot-out) scored five points.

Eagles chairman Georg Otten against the Bissendorfers as a team “always with a lot of running and a strong defense.” And in attack, national player Tim Strasser and the experienced Markus Köppl know pretty much exactly where the opposing goal is.

The Eagles would also like to book the first points in front of their home crowd because they are going to play German champions Crefelder SC in the Horkesgathhalle just under 24 hours later (7 p.m.). The Skating Bears started the season quite convincingly with victories over Düsseldorf (8:3), in Augsburg (6:4) and in Berlin (17:5). “We always had to work hard in Krefeld,” Otten knows, referring to the 7-6 win in the penalty shoot-out in 2019. “A great day from Thimo Dietrich and a converted penalty from Tim Dohmen were needed at the time.” That’s why it would certainly be an advantage , the Eagles could start with a full band on Sunday.

But that doesn’t work. If the player pass arrives in time, Dennis König (Ice Dragons Herford/Oberliga), who trained in Kaarst but then switched to ice hockey, could celebrate his comeback, but even with the 22-year-old defender in his ranks, the four-time German champion would have to improvise again. Otten: “We are currently still in the process of rebuilding and still have to do without a few top performers.” But the coaching team Marcus Drücker and Michael Geiß are happy to accept the unusual role of outsider.
