From early morning, gusts of foehn warmed the atmosphere of Crans-Montana on this Friday, June 12, 2020. Taking advantage of the sun, the cows grazed peacefully in the pastures of the station and certainly did not imagine anything that it was almost 2000 meters higher: skiers were enjoying almost winter conditions on the Plaine Morte glacier.
In want since the abrupt closure of the stations in March because of the coronavirus, certain followers of slips came from far: from German-speaking Switzerland and even from France and Austria. Bertrand and Marianne are locals and were delighted with the reopening of the station: “We were left hungry. We came to close the ski season with dignity! According to Maxime Cottet, director of the ski lifts, 200 to 400 skiers have started every day since June 6 on the only open slope at almost 3000 meters. Skiing is still possible in Crans-Montana until Sunday June 14. Followers can then redirect to Zermatt, the only other resort currently open to skiers.
