Twelve people, including several construction workers, were injured.
After being examined, the crane and some surrounding buildings were declared structurally stable.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
It would seem that a fire ignited in the cabin and weakened the cables which lifted a concrete block of 16 tons.
“We were lucky that it didn’t happen at a time when there were more people,” added Eric Adams, the mayor of New York.
