In videos shared on social media, part of the crane is seen falling and hitting a nearby building. According to New York firefighters, who contacted CBSthe building was empty at the time of the events due to work.

Nearby buildings have been evacuated and firefighters are still on site to secure the perimeter.

Eric Adams, mayor of New York, moved there to “evaluate the situation”, according to officials.

Nothing to know why this crane caught fire in the air. No hypothesis is favored for the time being.

In February 2016, a similar scene occurred in the southern Big Apple. A falling crane had killed one person and injured two others.
