Crane Catches Fire and Collapses in New York City

This Wednesday morning the city on the east coast of the United States experienced a moment of panic.

A crane caught fire on July 26 in the morning in New York. Located between 10th Avenue and 41st Street, in the heart of Manhattan, the machine caught fire for an as yet unknown reason before collapsing a building and crashing into the street.

According to New York relief, quoted by CBS Newsthe building, under construction, was empty at the time of the events.

“The crane operator tried to turn it off”

Six people, including two firefighters, were injured.

“The crane operator saw that the fire had started and tried to put it out (…) But the fire overwhelmed this operator and he had to get out of the crane”said during a press briefing the first deputy commissioner of firefighters Joseph W. Pfeifer. “The crane operator was able to get out and is safe.”

Nearby buildings were evacuated for safety reasons and part of 10th Avenue was closed to traffic.
