Craig Conroy will become the new general manager of the Calgary Flames. The leadership of the NHL hockey club is to appoint him to the position this week, TSN reported.
The former captain of the Flames ended his playing career in 2011. He then embarked on a career as an official and joined the club’s structures. Since 2014, he has worked as the assistant general manager of the Flames.
Fifty-one-year-old Conroy will replace Brad Treliving, who agreed with the Flames to end his cooperation after last season. The Canadian club did not advance to the playoffs last year, finishing ninth in the Western Conference, two points away from advancing. Slovak forward Adam Ružička is also in Calgary’s squad, last season he played 44 games for the Flames with 20 points (6+14).
Conroy was chosen as the new manager from among 40 candidates. According to TSN, his appointment also paves the way for the arrival of club icon Jarome Iginla in an official position.
Conroy played in 507 regular season games for the Flames, scoring 97 goals and adding 211 assists. In 45 playoff duels, he added 22 points (7+15). In 2004, he advanced with the team to the finals of the Stanley Cup. In the 2002/2003 season, he held the position of captain in the team. The former center also wore St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens and Los Angeles Kings.
