Craft Business in Bantul, Yogyakarta Goes Global: From Small Beginnings to International Success

Bantul

The craft business is one that is promising for the opportunity to make a profit and exists in many countries. One of them is Achmad Kurnia’s craft business in Bantul, Yogyakarta, which is now global.

Achmad said that the business he built started from a small capacity. This business, which was built in 2007, is called Siji Lifestyle, which was founded in Trirenggo Village, Pandowoharjo, Sleman Regency, DI Yogyakarta.

He said that this business, which had become successful worldwide, was initially founded in a small rented house. Now furniture craft products such as wall decor and bowl set has been sent to the United States (US) to Europe such as the Netherlands and Germany.

“I really started from small, from a rented house, then we moved to a simple warehouse, a bamboo warehouse. Then thank God it got better, we have our own place now,” said Achmad when met at the Siji Lifestyle factory, Bantul, DI Yogyakarta, Thursday (21/12/2023).

Achmad said that the factory he now owns was the result of kindness from buyers who wanted to help him find a suitable place to increase production.

“There is one buyer spoke to me ‘Achmad, you are not ashamed that this is such a small factory’. “Then he was the one who provided assistance so that he was finally able to get the place he is now,” he explained.

Achmad has quite a lot of experience in the world of handicrafts. He said that he had worked at one of the largest handicraft companies, PT Out Of Asia, then had gained the confidence to work at one of the large European furniture companies.

She also added to her experience by going back to school for international business and interiors. “So Siji is like passion I, looking for money right, but passionI’m here,” he explained.

Back with Achmad’s handicraft products. He explained that the products he produces are mostly made from leftover ingredients, for example corn husks which are usually thrown away by farmers when they are finished harvesting.

Even so, Achmad guarantees that the products he makes have excellence, firstly design, product quality which is guaranteed to be the quality of the raw materials. Therefore, the price is not cheap, but the quality is guaranteed from the design to the raw materials.

“So in Europe and America they usually make tags explaining what the original material is like, what the material is like. So that’s what we sell. We sell more on the experience when they buy, touch, hold it, when we explain ‘oh this is made from corn leaves “or kelobot, actually they like to be thrown away on the side of the road.” Finally we asked the community here to collect them, we bought them from farmers,” he explained.

Products have been exported to Singapore-USA. Check the next page.
