Crackdown on High-Powered Electric Bikes in the Netherlands: New Mobile Inspection Station Introduced

Police in the Netherlands have been given a mobile inspection station to crack down on high-powered electric bikes that are becoming increasingly popular in the country.

This device is similar to a dynamometer that allows you to determine the power of various motorized vehicles. In this case, the Netherlands uses smaller equipment where the power of electric two-wheelers can be tested. They are specially designed to be used comfortably on various bike paths, thus they are compact enough.

The policeman needs to secure the front wheel, but then reach top speed when the electric motor shuts off. Europe has stipulated that this should happen at 25 km/h. Usually, 250W powerful motors are used on our side, which also corresponds to reaching such a speed, but, for example, in California, the motor power reaches 750W.

While the big and well-known manufacturers of electric bike motors comply with these regulations, people have the option of buying them from lesser-known companies as well. They, in turn, can be modified to achieve higher speeds. Consequently, the Dutch police will now have a means of testing this power. There is no talk of specific punishments.
