Crab Champions is a roguelike TPS with crabs as the main characters. The crab that the player controls in this job can do things other than side while being a crab. As you fly around the sandy beach and other high mobility levels, you can shoot bullets at enemy crabs and monsters by manipulating firearms with scissors. The main character crab collects items scattered on the stage and becomes more and more powerful crab. In this work it is possible to play alone or in co-op with three friends, and it is said that one can enjoy playing so-called “broken” builds and defeating terrible enemies.

This work is said to have been produced with attention to crab operability and light and beautiful graphics. In the screenshots and playback videos, you can see that the sheen expected of the crab’s shell and the beautiful tropical sandy beach are well represented. Furthermore, it seems that the music was written for this work. By completing challenges, players can unlock and use skins, emotes, and victory songs. Also, it’s rumored that loot boxes and micro-top-up items won’t be included at all.

of the developerReportAccording to the company, the beta test that has been going on since the other day has already received positive feedback from players. From now on, it will be updated every weekend and gradually certify testers from time to time. A total of approximately 650 people are expected to obtain trial rights for the Early Access distribution on April 2 Japan Time.

The game is expected to be in early access for 1-2 years. From the start of Early Access, the main gameplay loop will be implemented. In addition to 3 types of biomes and 6 types of weapons, more than 75 types of weapon modification mods, more than 50 types of grenade modification mods and more than 100 types of parks will be implemented in early access. For the official release, those contents will be further expanded and the game itself should be dusted off. The game’s current price is undecided, but it is said to go up slightly when it is officially released.

Also, this work became a hot topic in the “draw 3 million crabs” experiment when Unreal Engine 5 appeared in Early Access (Related article). While this work is said to be developed by Unreal Engine, it is unknown if Unreal Engine 5 is adopted.

Crab Champions is available for PC (Steam), scheduled to begin shipping in Early Access on April 2 Japan Time. The beta test is currently underway and registration is possible from the “Request Access” button on the same store page.
