Agartala: A CPM MLA in Tripura left the party and joined the BJP just days before the assembly elections. CPM leader Moboshar Ali, who won from Kailashahar Assembly constituency in Unakoti district, joined the ruling BJP.
Assembly election in Tripura is on February 16. CPM and Congress had come to an electoral agreement to defeat the ruling BJP. Both the parties are contesting on seat sharing basis. According to this, Moboshar Ali’s constituency was given to Congress. Birjit Sinha of Congress will contest here. Problems arose in the CPM immediately after the announcement of the candidate list.
CPM State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhary confirmed that Moboshar Ali is joining the BJP. “We had heard about it. On investigation it was confirmed to be true. It is unfortunate that Moboshar Ali, who was an active leader of CPM, joined BJP. In the current political climate, we had moved seats with the Congress to protect democracy. This seat was given to the Congress candidate after consultation with Moboshar. He himself said that he will not contest this time. But this change of heart at the last stage is unfortunate’ said Jitendra Chaudhary.
Jitendra added that no one from the party would support Moboshar. ‘It is true that we could not give him a seat this time. But such a move was not expected” – he clarified. Jitendra also said that Mobosher leaving the party will not affect the relationship between CPM and Congress.
