Koilandi ∙ CPM Koilandi Town Central Local Secretary Puliora Vyalil P.V. Satyanathan (66) was hacked to death at Utsavaparam at 10 last night. At the Cheripuram temple in Peruvatur, the man was hacked near the temple during a song festival. He was rushed to Taluk Hospital but died.

The police said that Satyanathan was cut with an ax on his face and neck. At the time of the attack, Satyanathan’s wife and children were present at the festival. The body was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. A team led by CI Melvin Joseph reached the hospital.

In connection with the attack, Abhilash (33), a native of Peruvatur, was taken into custody. The police said that he is a former CPM worker and the reason for the attack was personal enmity. Satyanathan’s wife: Latika. Children: Salil Nath and Selina. The CPM will observe a hartal from 6 am to 6 pm today in Arikulam, Keezhriyur, Koyilandi, Chengottukav and Chemancherry to protest against the murder.
