Finnish jazz musician, bassist Kaisa Mäensivu was on her way to a music festival when she noticed a herd of cows grazing on the side of the road. Kaisa was accompanied on the road by saxophonist Max Zenger and her husband, drummer Joe Perry. The trio was on their way to a sound check at the Aland Sea Jazz Festival in Åland, Finland, but spontaneously decided to play a gig for a herd of cows, SWNS reports.
Kaisa, who lives in New York, said: “We were driving past the cows and all our tools were in the car. As we were going to be playing at a jazz festival that day, we thought the cows should have some jazz too!”
The cows seemed to enjoy the band’s improvisation and, lured by the sound of the music, moved closer to the edge of the field where the jazz players were standing.
“They approached us when we started playing, it was a fun surprise. It was so funny how they reacted!” remembers the jazz singer.
To Kaisa’s surprise, the cows turned out to be big fans of jazz and listened to the musicians’ performance for about 15 minutes until the group had to leave.
