Cow that escaped from New York slaughterhouse found in New Jersey sanctuary – Telemundo New York (47)

A young cow that escaped from a New York City slaughterhouse last week was taken to an animal sanctuary in New Jersey.

The Daily Record (Morristown) reported that the 400-pound Hereford heifer, about nine months old, ran away from a Queens business on Friday. The animal was cornered by rangers later that day at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

The next day, the Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue Center in Sussex County posted that “Stacy” was under temporary quarantine at the 230-acre Wantage facility.

“Little Stacy is fine, she’s getting used to us while she awaits the test results that will hopefully give her the go-ahead to go with other animals,” the center said. Director Mike Stura said the heifer will join 93 other cattle among the 450 other permanent residents at the center.

Skylands says it offers homes to animals that “have been in slaughterhouses, markets, farms, extreme neglect, abuse, religious ceremonies, neglect and even found on the wandering streets.”
