CoviShield will be vaccinated against coronavirus in Ukraine according to a new scheme

In Ukraine, they decided to use the CoviShield coronavirus vaccine reserved for the second dose (Indian trade name Oxford-AstraZeneca). As a result, the interval between injections can increase up to three months.

The Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health Explained OBOZREVATEL that a break of 4-12 weeks between the first and second vaccinations is the norm.

As reported LIGA.NET Fyodor Lapiy, member of the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunoprophylaxis (STGEI), discussion of this topic began in February – after publication in the journal The Lancet the results of a large-scale study of the effectiveness of the vaccine in Britain.

In early March, the NTGEI recommended the Ministry of Health to increase the interval. This decision was prompted by the results of a British study, which showed that the effectiveness of protection of the vaccinated is higher with an increased interval between doses. So, for those who received the second injection after 12 weeks, the effectiveness was 81.3%. If the drug was re-administered in less than 6 weeks, the effectiveness was 55.1%.

“A decision has been made to vaccinate as much as possible with one dose of asters. This will give us the opportunity to apply 250 thousand doses – those that were reserved for the second dose (with a plan of 28 days – Ed.),” Lapiy said.

He clarified that the adjustment of the scheme does not apply to other COVID-19 vaccines that Ukraine will receive.

The relevant information should soon appear on the website of the Ministry of Health, said Associate Professor of the Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases of the National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education. Shupika.

Note that another study showed: one dose of “aster” when measured in the fifth week after the injection by 94% reduced the frequency of hospitalizations for people aged 80+, and who still contracted the coronavirus.

Previously OBOZREVATEL reported that some of the EU countries suspended vaccination of AstraZeneca. As you know, the drug Oxford-AstraZeneca has problems: a number of large and small countries want to further clarify its safety profile after reports of cases of thrombosis after vaccination (no regulator has yet said that they originated from vaccination).

At the same time, WHO and doctors called on get vaccinated with AstraZeneca, despite fears.
