Covid19: The Bishop of Tenerife hides his place of residence from Health to get vaccinated | Radio Club Tenerife

The bishop of Tenerife, Bernardo Álvarez, hid from the Canary Islands Health Council -department directed by Blas Trujillo-, his true place of residence to be vaccinated against Covid19 on January 13. As published this Friday by the newspaper El Día, Álvarez lives in an earthen house, located on Tabares street in Cala de La Laguna, and not in the San Juan de Ávila Priestly Residence located on Anchieta street, as the Bishopric assured Radio Club Tenerife of Cadena SER.

Apparently, the Bishopric of the Nivariense Diocese said that Álvarez was on the list of vaccinated because, not only did he reside in the Priestly Residence, but he maintained daily contact with the older priests, who were vaccinated that same day together to labor, religious and cleaning personnel belonging to an external company.

On January 28, when Radio Club Tenerife announced that the bishop had injected the first dose of the vaccine against Covid-19, the Bishopric issued a statement reaffirming the idea that Bernardo Alvarez lives in an apartment attached to the Residence, hence the need to get vaccinated with the rest of the residents.

However, one of the nuns who is in charge of caring for the inmates in the Priestly Residence, assures that the Bishop of Tenerife, Bernardo Álvarez, “He does not live here”, as reported this Friday by the newspaper El Día, who adds that “He neither has breakfast, nor eats, nor dinner. He has no contact with the inmates,” Add.

The second dose

Faced with this situation, Radio Club Tenerife of Cadena SER has consulted the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands for the second dose against Covid19, which would have to be administered to the Bishop of Tenerife. Health sources ensure that “No one is going to be denied” the second inoculation but that, as recently agreed, the second dose of the vaccine will be delayed, prioritizing those people who are accredited to belong to the most vulnerable groups, and until the information files are resolved.

Priestly Residence ‘San Juan de Ávila’

The residence, inaugurated in November 1994, is intended, primarily, for the permanent stay of retired priests, as described the digital portal of the Bishopric of Tenerife. And add that, “Whenever there is space available, priests can reside in it in special situations because of their ministry or for personal reasons. Furthermore, it can be used by passing priests, diocesan or not.”
