BITTERNESS – Such a pity. The Viareggio Tournament strictly with a capital T due to its importance, is an almost unmissable event in the youth football scene. The inevitable decision came at the end of the last meeting of the board of directors. The situation is what it is, so it cannot be risked. The president of the CGC, Alessandro Palagi explained the situation. “The next edition of the Viareggio Cup will take place in March 2022, obviously with the hope that the Covid-19 pandemic has been definitively defeated or in any case under control. At first we hypothesized that the Tournament could take place in September. 2021, at the beginning of the 2021/2022 sports season but, after a more in-depth reflection, listening to the voice of some professionals, we have developed the conviction that it is more appropriate to start again from March next year “.

FUTURE – It remains to be understood what the future of this tournament will be, a very important event not only for professionals but also for many young players who have found the springboard for an extraordinary career in Viareggio. In this sense, 2022 is still an unknown factor. The exact dates of the next edition have not yet been disclosed, but everything suggests that they will be decided as soon as possible, probably also in relation to the calendars of the national youth championships. On the high seas also the Viareggio Woman’s Cup, intended for the spring girls of women’s football. The hope, of course, is that the ball will roll back to Lido dei Pini soon, chased by young hopefuls. It would be the best message for a desired, although still evidently distant, normality.
