Covid Vaccine Booster Test in Israel Effectively Protects the Elderly

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Ministry of Health Israel declare the third dose of vaccine Covid-19 Pfizer was able to increase protection from infection and serious illness among people aged 60 and over compared to those who received two injections.

The data was presented at a meeting of the ministry’s vaccination expert panel on Thursday last week and uploaded to the internet on Sunday (22/8) last week. However, full details of the study were not released.

The findings are similar to separate statistics reported last week by healthcare provider Maccabi Israel, one of several organizations providing booster shots of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Detailing statistics from the Israel Gertner Institute and the KI Institute, Israeli Ministry of Health officials said protection against infection among residents aged 60 years and over started ten days after the third dose was four times higher than after two doses.

A third injection for people over 60 years of age offers five to six times greater protection after 10 days. That age group is particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 and in Israel was the first to be inoculated when vaccine efforts began in late December.

As reported ReutersIn recent weeks, the Israeli Ministry of Health said that the immunity of the elderly and young people against Covid-19 has decreased over time. Most people who have been vaccinated but are seriously ill are over 60 years of age with comorbidities.

Israel began giving a third injection to people over 60 on July 30. At the same time, Israel lowered the age of eligibility for boosters to 40 years, including pregnant women, teachers and health workers under that age. The third dose is only given to those who received the second injection at least five months ago.
