“Covid Vaccination Reinforcement: New Recommendations for Booster Shots”

The Executive Medical Secretary of Siprosa, Dr. Miguel Ferre Contreras, in dialogue with the press, communicated the news regarding Covid vaccination.

“As of yesterday, after an agreement between the Ministry of Health of the Nation, the ministries of each of the provinces and the National Immunization Commission, the current scientific evidence regarding the pandemic, circulation virus and vaccination schemes of the population, for which it has been decided to modify the reinforcement scheme”.

And he added: “We had in force that every person should have five doses, however, today what is known according to the evidence and the immunological curves after the vaccines is that the booster to receive depends on each person and their schedule of vaccination. This is why it is recommended that everyone have the initial vaccination schedule complete, that is, they have received the two doses of the vaccine plus a booster, that is, three doses. From there our successive vaccination will depend on which groups we integrate.

Today, everyone who has already started the scheme and more than six months have passed since the last booster should go to get a booster vaccine, especially everyone over 50 years of age, people with immunocompromised and pregnant women, since this This particular group is the one at high risk of serious illness and death. Therefore, they will have to receive a booster every six months until the regulations change.”, he stressed.

Following this line, the official remarked that, with all the vaccines, the main objective is to prevent admission to intensive care and death. Vaccines against Covid have shown very high efficacy and that is why, since the arrival of the vaccine, the successive waves that we have had have really been with low mortality.

It should be noted that the vaccine that is applied as a booster for the adult population is the bivalent Pfizer, which is a vaccine that protects against the two Omicron variants that are currently circulating. While for the child population the Modern Pediatric vaccine is placed, which is the current one in the country at this time.

Likewise, Ferre Contreras explained that this also includes the child population. “Whenever there is a basic pathology or that there is immunocompromise, thinking that this immunocompromise can cause the defenses generated by the vaccine to decay over time, it is necessary to place a reinforcement. And in the particular case of people under 50 years of age who do not have any pathology, that is, they are healthy, this group, having the complete scheme, has to receive a booster only once a year”.
