We were easy prophets in imagining what would happen today. In the article “3 reasons why this will be the likely scenario on the stock market today”Our Experts had correctly identified today’s trend. Guessing what will happen on the stock market is always a difficult test, especially when it comes to determining the trend of the next day. Analyzing last week’s price trend and studying what had happened on Friday, one could imagine a difficult session for today. And so it was.
The lists today were overwhelmed by sales, because Covid triggers panic, the stock exchanges collapse and Piazza Affari collapses. For equity markets today was a session to forget. The stock markets all opened in red and closed with deep drops. The collapse came formally due to fears about economic growth caused by the spread of the contagions of the Delta variant of Covid over the weekend. In reality, as we have also written previously, the malaise comes from afar. Let’s find out what happened on the markets today.
Covid unleashes panic, stock exchanges collapse and Piazza Affari collapses
Let’s start with the closures of the stock markets. The German stock exchange lost 2.6%, that of Paris 2.5%, while London lost 2.3% on the day of Freedom Day. In fact, in the United Kingdom today all restrictions related to the Covid emergency and paradoxically today the stock market lost heavily. At the close of the Old Continent Squares, the American Stock Exchange was also losing. The Dow Jones and the S&P 500 were down 2%, the Nasdaq by 1.5%.
Piazza Affari was the worst stock exchange among the main European lists. The Ftse Mib (INDEX:FTSEMIB) ended the session down 3.3%, closing at 23,965 points, reaching exactly the targets set by our analysts’ analysis. The index was once again sunk by banks but also by stocks linked to the oil sector. BPER Banca was the worst blue chip with a 5% loss, while Intesa Sanpaolo lost 4.2%. Heavy drop also for Enel, which lost 5% and Saipem, which lost 4.7%, dragged down by the 7% drop in the price of crude oil.
