Australia is experiencing a decline in new cases
Australia has its lowest daily coronavirus rise in three months with only 18 new cases reported so far. The state of Victoria – the epicenter of the country’s Covid-19 outbreak – recorded 14 new infections today, down from 21 the previous day. New South Wales and Queensland have reported two cases each. Such low numbers were recorded last June 23, reports the BBC online. Victoria’s premier Daniel Andrews said the numbers are “cause for great optimism”. His state, which accounted for 75% of Australia’s 26,900 cases and 90% of 849 deaths, has been in lockdown since early July. The capital Melbourne has been subject to stricter restrictions than other areas, including a curfew and the requirement to stay at home, which have resulted in several protests in the city that have now become regular. Even today, according to local media, some demonstrators gathered in the city’s commercial center to protest. Yesterday, an anti-lockdown rally in a park was dispersed by mounted police.
