Covid test on the shovel in Vienna: only to catering, hairdresser and events if you are vaccinated or cured

Fearing that Vienna will be badly hit by a fourth virus wave and hospitals will be overrun, Mayor Michaël Ludwig announced today that the city council will take stricter corona measures from the end of next week.

Those measures are not bad: in the Austrian capital you will have to be able to prove in many places that you have been vaccinated against the coronavirus or have recovered from covid, the disease caused by the virus.

This will be the case in the hospitality industry (cafés and restaurants), contact professions (such as hairdressers and beauty salons) and all events with more than 25 attendees. The city has also announced that it will check whether the measures are being effectively complied with.

The city council also wants to boost the vaccination rate by, on the one hand, expanding the vaccination campaign to children between 5 and 11 years of age, and, on the other hand, by encouraging residents to register for a third shot. In Vienna, about 64 percent of the inhabitants are fully vaccinated.
