Kralendijk- It had been in the air for a while, but was not yet possible: Testing arriving passengers at Bonaire airport.
After doing a lot of work on both sides of the ocean, it now seems to be getting off the ground. The aim is to be able to test arriving passengers on the island with an antigen test from 25 May.
Director of Hestia CVC, Xander Schurink, who was previously responsible for setting up a joint test facility with the local BonLab, previously argued for a test on arrival. “It is literally possible that people do not leave infected yet, but turn out to be sick upon arrival”.
For the time being, the test on arrival will still have to be combined with a negative PCR test before departure.

Chief Operationg Officer (COO) at the Flamingo Airport, Onno de Jong, confirms the arrival of the test center at the airport in conversation with Bonaire.nu. “A real boost for the island,” he says in between two other conversations. The arrival test facility is an important condition for the start-up of direct flights from, among others, the United States, the first of which is scheduled for the beginning of June.
Less positive for the tourist who tests positive on arrival is that he still has to be in central quarantine until the symptoms have disappeared. However, most tourists are expected to be willing to take that risk.
