The contagion does not stop and European countries are running for cover. In the last few hours, the list of measures launched in different nations of the Old Continent to avert the ‘take-off’ of the numbers of the coronavirus pandemic is lengthening.
In England, the map is enlarged characterized by special measures. In Lancashire, Merseyside, parts of the Midlands region and West Yorkshire, an area where nearly 4.7 million people live, it will be banned from meeting non-cohabiting people at home or in private gardens on Tuesday. In parts of Lancashire and Merseyside, pub closures will be anticipated. With these new measures, announced yesterday by the London government, the number of UK residents who are subjected to restrictive measures rises to 13.5 million.

In Spain, spotlights on the capital. The Madrid region has announced restrictions on freedom of movement in 37 districts of the metropolitan area. As of Monday, the inhabitants of these areas – about 850 thousand people – will not be able to leave their district except to go to work, to school, to the doctor or to assist family members. Gatherings of more than six people will be prohibited, while parks and gardens will be closed. “There are 37 areas in the community of Madrid where there is a greater incidence. We are talking about a thousand infections per 100 thousand inhabitants, a very serious figure”, said at a press conference the president of the region, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, stressing that such measures are necessary to avoid having to resort to confinement.
Movement restrictions apply to six districts of the capital and seven municipalities in the region. 13% of the inhabitants of the Madrid community live in this area, but in the last week there has been 24% of the contagions in the region. 6.6 million people live in the community of Madrid. The region has recorded 1212 new cases in the past 24 hours, with 33 deaths.

The maximum meeting cap is reduced to 50 people, with exceptions for venues with large seating capacity, such as football stadiums. The premier urged everyone to work from home as much as possible, reduce social contacts and avoid crowded public transport. The new measures will be in effect at least until 4 October.
In Greece, the cinema closes in Athens. Gatherings with 10 people outlawed, limited participation in baptisms, weddings and funerals.
