Jakarta

This time the Omicron XBB subvariant is suspected to be the culprit for the spike in COVID-19 RI cases. Although the symptoms are believed to be milder than the Delta variety which is the reason for the massive COVID-19 spike in RI in 2021, doctors point out that there are some groups who are vulnerable to worsening conditions from Omicron XBB.

Dr. Prasenohadi, PhD, SpP(K), KIC, head of the Department of Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia (FKUI) and Friendship Hospital, explained that COVID-19 patients who need treatment in hospital I am now experiencing a decrease in symptoms. However, he found that most patients had comorbidities or comorbidities such as chronic renal failure, chronic heart disease, or malignant cancer.

Most of these patients did not receive the full injection dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“So this vaccination is really, really helpful and if you look at it, most of the patients being treated haven’t been vaccinated or haven’t had a full vaccination. Maybe just once, twice, unlike people who are full,” she said in a virtual press conference Indonesia pandemic and symptoms in COVID-19 patients, Wednesday (16/11/2022).

Additionally, Dr. Pras added, COVID-19 patients who died generally were already seriously ill and had to undergo routine care.

“Patients who die with large mortality are people with comorbidities. In old age, there are comorbidities, for example, patients with HIV, kidney failure. In fact, they previously had severe disease which was then exacerbated by COVID,” he said. explained Dr. Pras.

“There are a number of patients whose lungs are normally good, but there are other people who have diseases that need routine care and that’s what people with advanced age and comorbidities need to pay attention to,” he concluded.

As of the latest data on Wednesday (11/16/2022), RI’s daily cases of COVID-19 surpassed 8,000 cases, with 8,486 new cases accompanied by 4,255 recovered cases and 54 patient deaths. Daily cases are the highest since April 2022.
