The tone is alarming. In an email sent this Wednesday afternoon to its entire medical community, the management of the Rennes University Hospital warns that “the level of tension on the medical beds has again sharply worsened at the start of the week, with many patients to be hospitalized in emergencies and in immediate post-emergency structures ”. For the first time since November, Pontchaillou has therefore decided to raise its mobilization plan one level to cope with the resurgence of covid patients requiring hospitalization.
Consequence: all medical services are called upon to free up five beds initially, postponing non-urgent operations. In Rennes as elsewhere, many deprogramming had already been carried out during the first and second waves of the epidemic in the spring and then last fall. Departments are called upon to report the number of beds available to management every day in order to monitor capacity as closely as possible.
« Clusters multiples »
“The main reason for the current tensions (…) comes from multiple clusters, unprecedented in their speed of installation as in the number of people affected”, specifies the email. A situation observed at the Rennes University Hospital as in the other establishments of the territory. This Tuesday, 85 patients with covid were hospitalized in Pontchaillou, still far from the peak of November, where 124 people infected with the coronavirus were treated simultaneously at the hospital.
