Covid, on the rise, but with minimal damage

2023 begins and there are still many who have not understood that the pandemic has not gone away, in fact now we have been on the rise for 12 consecutive weeks. It is true, the new waves have not been as catastrophic as those of previous years, but the problem persists. According to the health authority, to date there is 8% hospital occupancy in general beds and 3% in beds with ventilators.

On Tuesday of the “Health Pulse”, of the traditional presidential morning conference, Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez, Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, warned that “the positive news” is that there is a great contrast between infections and the hospitalizations and deaths, thanks to vaccines.

It is true, this has a lot to do with the level of anti-Covid vaccination of the Mexican population, which is around 93 percent. In other words, it is about the positive effect of the immunity provided by the biologicals that the Mexican government has purchased since the end of 2020.

The undersecretary added that this new face of the pandemic is noticeably perceived in the area of deaths, where a minimal representation is also observed, especially when compared to any of the previous waves.

We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks.

Do you get vaccinated with Abdalá?

The controversial Cuban anti-Covid vaccine, Abdalá, is the biological that the Mexican government acquired to protect the population against the new variants of the new coronavirus and, of course, the waves that will continue to arrive throughout this year.

For many, the purchase of this vaccine has many ideological overtones. Undoubtedly, as we know, there is an affinity between the current administration of the 4T and the Cuban government, headed by Miguel Díaz-Canel, so that is where the decision came from, in order to give money, legally, to the government of the island.

Was it the best option? We think not, because this anti-Covid vaccine is not approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) and there is no published scientific evidence from phases II and III of research.

It is true, the same thing happened with other biologics, such as the one from the Chinese pharmaceutical company Cansino, which was acquired without scientific evidence or approval from the WHO, which came over the months.

However, for those of us who got this vaccine -the teachers-, we felt unprotected, especially when we saw that another part of the population was immunized with biologicals from renowned world-famous pharmaceutical companies, many of them “Big Pharma”.

In this regard, Dr. Alejandro Macías, who was the czar of the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic, always says that “the best vaccine is the one that is available”, so under that premise we should all get vaccinated, by now, with Abdullah.

But other voices critical of this government’s health policy, such as doctors and health sector analysts Xavier Tello and Alejandro Moreno, have questioned this Cuban biologist. “If I wouldn’t put it on my family, I wouldn’t be able to recommend it to others.”

For now, Abdalá is the biological we have available to strengthen our immunity against the new virus that is sweeping the world. For some, that is enough to put it on at any Health Center. “Better is nothing,” they say.

For others, on the other hand, getting said vaccine will only play along with this 4T government, who did not have enough intelligence to buy biologicals for which there is scientific evidence and there is no doubt about their efficacy, such as those known and applied. during this pandemic, such as those from Pfizer/BioNtech, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Janssen and more.

What matters more to protect the Mexican population or to look good with another leftist government?

the first aid kit

  • Since January 9, the person who writes this sent a letter to Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, Federal Secretary of Culture, with a detailed complaint of vices, bad practices and corruption in the INAH Communications Media Directorate, but to date, only there has been silence, no response. Will they answer one day or will it happen as with the issue of plagiarism of Minister Yazmín Esquivel’s degree thesis, that they only pass the ball between the UNAM and the SEP?
