Covid: Omicron BA.5 variant accelerates in Italy, particularly in eight regions

The Omicron BA.5 variant runs particularly in eight regions: Sardinia, Abruzzo, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia-Giulia, Lazio, Veneto, Sicily, Umbria. These two regions have also exceeded the alert threshold for the occupation of Covid beds (15%).
Nationally, the intensive care occupancy rate remains limited to 2.2%, but it is up from 1.9% the previous week.
On Sunday, 48,456 new cases of Covid were recorded and 44 deaths, compared to 55,166 the day before (and 51 victims) and 56,166 the previous day (with 75 deaths).

Covid restrictions in Italy: towards an extended mask obligation at work

While almost all of the restrictions have fallen in Italy, a review of the rules is not on the agenda. Wearing a mask (FFP2) therefore remains compulsory for the time being, and until September 30, only in public transport and the train.
