New lockdown for at least three weeks in Israel. The premier announced it Benjamin netanyahu at the end of a very long government meeting. The measure to deal with the Covid emergency will start from next Friday afternoon, when schools, shopping centers and hotels will be closed.
Impossible for the health system, explained the premier, to deal with the increase in infections, estimated at around 2000 per day. The blockade will last three weeks, until the feast of Simchat Torah. The public sector will have the same limitations as the March and April lockdown. Schools will be closed and citizens will be forced to stay within 500 meters of their homes. “I know it’s a heavy price for all of us, these aren’t the holidays we’re used to. We certainly won’t be able to celebrate with our extended families,” Netanhyahu explained. The premier also promised compensation to companies damaged by the blockade.
