Malaysia reveals new virus-like strains of the coronavirus in South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands.

The Straits TimesReported on Dec. 23, Dr. Nur Hisham Abdullah, Director-General of the Department of Health. The Malaysian Ministry of Health stated that the new virus strain “A701B” was found in the country from a random sampling in Sabah.

It is close to the endemic strains in South Africa, Australia and the Netherlands. But it is not known whether the viral mutation will result in it becoming more invasive and virulent.

Dr. Noor added that Viruses are always mutated, and the effects of different strains will be monitored and studied.

The mutated virus was detected in 60 samples taken from patients in Sabah. Malaysia previously found the “D614G” mutation, identified to be 10 times more infectious than the original strain in Kedah state in August.

However, the Malaysian government has not shown an increase in quarantine from 10 days to 14 days, arguing that most cases will begin to show symptoms within the first week. Therefore, if detained for only 7 days, there will be a high risk. While the 10-day and 14-day detention were almost no different.

However, tourists traveling from abroad must be tested and quarantined if the test results are negative. But if the test is positive, he will be sent to hospital for further treatment.
