More than 400 Indians are being treated at a hospital in Andhra Pradesh. Many people had seizures, nausea and loss of consciousness, with at least one death from mysterious infection.
Kita Prasadini, director of public health in Andhra Pradesh, said the victim was a 45-year-old man, and blood samples were taken for further investigation to determine the cause of the disease.
Andhra Pradesh authorities said on Dec. 7 that the cause of the outbreak was not yet known and that people of all age groups were likely to be infected.
Including the Indian Health Ministry said it would send a team of three medical experts to investigate the outbreak.
Authorities are currently inspecting 20 water sources in Eluru, where the first outbreak was reported, including nearby areas.
