The Covid-19 infections in Andalusia they have grown almost 70 percent in the last month. Thus, they have gone from 1,371 in the week of October 11 to 16 to go to 2,296 in which it ends this Sunday the 14th. It’s 67 percent more. However, and despite the fact that the community has already had over 400 cases of coronavirus for three days, there is almost no impact on the hospitalized or the deceased.

Thus, Andalusia adds this Saturday 416 new cases of Covid-19. They are somewhat less than yesterday (439) but more than the same day last week (363). The upward trend is more than clear already in infections. And, although there are also more admitted, they do not grow in the same proportion.

Proof of this reality is that those hospitalized this Saturday in Andalusia is 180, two less than yesterday. Although they have grown from the lowest point, which was reached on November 1, with 152 admitted, they are still less than a month ago, when the infections had already begun to grow.

The same goes for the deceased. This Saturday Salud reports only one. It is the same figure that has been noticed for three days. This week, if they add up, 17 Covid fatalities have been reported. They are two more than the previous week and five more than the previous one. What does this mean? That deaths rise but much slower than the infections that are detected.

Vaccine protection

Behind this reality there is an explanation: vaccines. With no restrictions other than the use of masks, it is the immunization of the population –that reaches more than 80 percent of the population of Andalusia – the one that protects the population and avoids scenarios such as those of previous moments of the pandemic.

Until now, it should be remembered, when the case curve rose almost immediately, it was the hospitalized and, shortly after, the dead. And the three variables did it with the same force. This is not the case now. It can be observed, for example, in the case of ICUs. There are today 34 people in intensive care for coronavirus in Andalusia. They are the same as yesterday Friday. And only two more than the same day last week. There is growth, but very weak.
