The director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies (CCAES), Fernando Simón, has highlighted, in statements collected by Efe, that the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic is now “a priori favorable” and “we are doing well” , but has warned that “it is not over”.
According to the expert, autumn “will be a key moment”, among other things, to see if more decisions have to be made, such as a new dose of the vaccine, which for the moment “may not be necessary”.
Fernando Simón has warned that “there are many risks involved that we have to see how they evolve”, and then the fall will be a key moment to see what happens with “immunity, new variants, or transmission”.
The epidemiologist has stressed that we must continue to be cautious “although it is true that the situation at the moment, a priori, is favorable, with a very well vaccinated population, which greatly conditions the evolution of the pandemic in terms of severity and lethality and the transmission.
