The Generalitat recommends that the use of a mask be resumed indoors

The Government spokeswoman, Patrícia Plaja, warned this Tuesday that the data on COVID-19 in Catalonia “are not good” and has called on citizens, especially the most vulnerable, to maintain the recommended precautionary measures, such as the use of the mask in closed or crowded spaces.

COVID-19 infections continue to rise in Catalonia, with an average of 4,000 cases diagnosed per daywhich translates into an increase in hospitalizations of positives, above 1,700 patients, and also of those admitted to ICUs, which already house 46 critical patients, according to data updated today by the Department of Health.

“The data is not good, the infections are increasing, at the moment the subvariants of omicron BA.4 and BA.5 are already beginning to be the majorityare more contagious sub-variants, and this is already being noticed in hospital wards and in ICUs”, Plaja pointed out at the press conference after the Consell Executiu, in which has ruled out restrictive measures being taken in the short term.

While waiting for the details given this afternoon by the Secretary of Public Health, Carmen Cabezas, the Government spokeswoman has highlighted the importance of wearing the mask as a precautionary measure, especially among the elderly or those who already suffer from previous pathologies, and has recalled that it is convenient for those infected to remain at home.

“It is not expected that there will be more limitations. But we have to adapt to the evolution of the pandemicand it will be necessary to remember again the prevention and precautionary measures, and those habits that we already had acquired and, as is logical, perhaps in recent weeks we have been leaving a little aside,” Plaja pointed out.
