Have passed three years since the coronavirus arrived in Andalusia and have been administered more than 20 million anti-Covid doses since there are vaccines. And immunization pays off: the health crisis that it caused is contained and there is 114 hospitalized with the virus. came to exceed 3,000 at the peak of the pandemic. In short, that is the current scenario in the community of an epidemiological crisis that turned the world upside down. Vaccines are the key to change.
Vaccines
June and July 2020 were the months with the fewest deaths and infections with the virus, but with a very large sacrifice of the entire population: the confinement, which started, without previous precedents, on March 14. Because the effects go dominoes over time (infections, hospitalizations, ICU admissions and deaths, in that chronological order), the confinement since mid-March of that year caused deaths to fall months later. But as the restrictions were loosened, they were increased. The vaccine arrived at the end of December 2020; in record time. It began to be administered on the 27th of that month, four days before the end of the year, in nursing homes. Then it went to toilets, essential personnel and, from there, to the general population by age scale until it reached children, almost a year later: on December 15, 2021.
For the greatest haste, the so-called vaccinodromes were launched. Sports stadiums, municipal pavilions, civic centers… In the one with the greatest impact in Andalusia, that of the Estadio de la Cartuja in Seville, half a million doses of the 7.4 that have been injected to date were administered.
Deceased
The peak of deaths from the pandemic was recorded in February 2021. In one month, 1,752 people died. In the first week alone, there were almost 700. Although the inoculation had already begun, it still had no effect. So both deaths, hospitalizations and admissions to the ICU continued to skyrocket. At present, there are still deaths infected with the virus. But they are much fewer and the toilets clarify that the majority die with Covid and not from Covid.
According to the latest updated data, the coronavirus has claimed the lives of 15,868 Andalusians. In the last week, 19 have died.
Hospitalized
The last week of January 2021, the maximum number of admissions was recorded, when there was still a small vaccinated population. Exactly, that week 3,434 were counted. Now it is a hundred, about 30 times less. And, as with the deceased, many are with Covid and not from Covid.
Contagious
Regarding infections, more of the same. The new surveillance system must be taken into account, according to which, since March of last year, only positives have been registered in people over 65 years of age and other vulnerable groups, including pregnant women or immunocompromised people. Even so, while at the peak of the pandemic – at the end of January 2021 – there were more than 5,000 daily reports, currently the reports from the Ministry of Health range between 400 or 500, but adding up to a whole week. In addition, the health workers point out that, in general, the cases present with mild symptoms. In the accumulated, the positive cases registered in the community are 1,634,200.
By provinces
Malaga continues to be the province with the most weekly positives, in the last week there have been 100. And Córdoba, is the one with the least 22. In the accumulated, Seville stands out, something logical as it is the most populous province. In total, 330,256 infections and 3,425 deaths have been registered. It is followed by Malaga, with 319,939 and 2,877, respectively. Next Cádiz (221,635 and 1,972); Recorded (199,312 and 2,333); Cordoba (169,951 and 1,674); Almería (157,962 and 1,381); Jaen (135,547 and 1,630); and Huelva, the best stop, with 99,598 positives registered in three years and 576 deaths.
