Edith Kwoizalla, a 101-year-old guest of a senior residence in Halberstadt (Saxony-Anhalt), will leave her mark in Germany in 2020. On December 26, she became the first German patient to receive a dose of the Covid vaccine developed by Pfizer e Biontech, one day earlier than three days nail indicated by the European Commission: i Vaccination days on December 27, 28 and 29, with the green light for the distribution of the doses reserved by the community executive to “vaccinate Europe” against the pandemic.
Although Brussels has diluted the event in 72 hours, the majority of EU countries will officially kick off the injections on the symbol date of 27 December. The plan: (at least) 200 million doses by 2021
On December 21, the European Commission gave the green light to the drug developed by the US Pfizer and the German Biontech, making it the first anti-Covid vaccine authorized in the EU. The European Medicines Agency (European medicines agency, or Ema) has accelerated the green light to the vaccineafter the ok received by the drug in the United Kingdom, the USA and Canada.
Deliveries of the vaccine began throughout Europe on December 26, while the following three days (December 27, 28, 29) coincide with the start of administration in the various EU countries. The first tranches of drugs will be reserved for “priority” groups, identified by individual countries, and then continue with weekly vaccinations in 2021. Pfizer and Biontech will deliver a first stock of 12.5 million doses by the end of the year, the equivalent of just over 4% of 300 million vaccines purchased from Brussels.
The Commission’s objective is to distribute the first 200 million doses by September next year, possibly activating the additional quota of 100 million doses. The Commission also secured 400 million doses from AstraZeneca, 300 million doses from Sanofi-GSK, 400 million doses from Johnson and Johnson, 405 million doses from CureVac and 160 million doses from Moderna.
