Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
The government plans to conduct raids on drug warehouses Covid-19 starting next Thursday (8/7). The action was taken because the price of drugs on the market has soared in recent days.
Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government gave the opportunity for drug dealers to restore drug prices to normal.
“If in the next three days we still get high drug prices or there is a shortage, then we will take firm steps by raiding all of their warehouses that we have identified,” Luhut said at an online press conference, Monday. (5/7).
He said the selling price of a number of drugs had skyrocketed. Luhut gave an example of the price of Ivermectin which was originally under Rp. 10 thousand, now it has been sold in tens of thousands of Rupiah.
Luhut conveyed that Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin had made provisions for the retail price of Covid-19 drugs. He asked drug manufacturers and sellers to follow the provisions.
He assigned the police to raid the drug hoarding warehouses. According to him, the police can take the hoarders to legal action.
“Thursday there should not be a shortage. We should not be governed by greedy people,” he said.
“We must act decisively. We have warned and did not listen to our warning, we will take firm action,” said Luhut.
Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya together with Kodam Jaya will carry out joint patrols to prevent drug shortages in the Jakarta area. Deputy Kapolda Metro Jaya Brigadier General Hendro Pandowo said this patrol was a follow-up to Luhut’s instructions.
In addition to patrols, Hendro said, his party will also deploy personnel to take firm action if it is proven that there are individuals who carry out hoarding.
“Also deploying both open and closed officers to take decisive action, investigate if there are people who are still using other people’s lives to hoard profits,” he said.
