Covid crushes the US. The numbers of infected, hospitalized and dead are record-breaking

According to the server, it increased in the USA during Thursday worldometers 218,576 newly confirmed cases, the daily number of 2,918 victims is also a record. Other sources give slightly lower numbers, but always over 217,000 infected and 2,879 dead.

So far, the blackest day has been April 21, when 2,744 infected died. According to some sources, the record was set on Wednesday, but it was definitely broken on Thursday.

The epidemic is on the rise in the United States. Thursday’s number of new cases was twelve thousand more than on Wednesday. The limit of 200,000 new cases has so far been exceeded only once, on 20 November.

The number of currently infected is also a record, of which there are almost 5.7 million. More than 100,000 people are treated in hospitals. At the beginning of October, there were just over three million currently infected in the USA, so now there are almost twice as many.

However, the continuing increase in new cases raises concerns that the number of victims will increase as people die two to three weeks after the infection is detected. Black forecasts indicate that another 250,000 infected people may die within two months. According to various sources, there are already 267,000 to 276,000 victims in the United States.

100 thousand hospitalized

The number of hospitalized in the USA on Wednesday exceeded 100,000 for the first time, the number of people in hospitals is increasing, especially in the most populous states – in California, Florida, New York and Texas, according to data from The Covid Tracking Project. In many places, there is already a threat that the capacity of hospitals, which usually lack staff, will be filled.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Thursday that strict quarantine measures will soon come into force in most areas of the state, allowing people to go out just to buy groceries, to the doctor or for food at the service window. Services will not be allowed either.

The restrictions are to apply to regions where only 15 percent of the capacity will remain in hospital intensive care units. According to Newsom, the situation will be in the end of the week in all areas of California except San Francisco, where the closure is expected to begin in the second half of December.

Vaccination will last

Health experts have recently warned that the United States is facing difficult winter months and is urging Americans to follow hygiene measures and reduce contacts.

However, their advice was disobeyed by the millions of people who went to their relatives on Thanksgiving Day, which experts say will lead to a further increase in the number of new cases in the coming days.

The hope to stop the infection is several vaccines that have proven effective in testing and must now go through a US regulatory approval process. Even after their approval, however, we cannot expect a quick effect.

White House Crisis Staff Expert Deborah Birx said Thursday that vaccinating all Americans at higher risk for severe covid-19 will take at least weeks, but probably months.
