Covid, closed gyms and the desire to train: how to create do-it-yourself tools to practice at home

Gyms closed but among the Italians there is a lot desire to train at home too. Here, to keep fit, by following the right rules, you can get excellent results. What can sometimes be discouraging is the unavailability of tools but, fortunately, they can also be built with easily available materials.

Dumbbells are certainly among the most useful items for training at home that can be replaced with items already present in all kitchens. Old plastic bottles can be recycled and, depending on the weight you want to lift, the bottles can be filled with water, sand, stones or dried legumes. You can also tie the bottles to a broomstick to make a barbell.

Another useful object for training is the medicine ball which can be achieved by getting an old basketball and then you have to cut a hole in the ball that can be filled with stones until you reach the desired weight. The hole should then be closed with packing tape or with the help of a kit to repair flat tires.

You can also make wristbands and anklets by recycling old socks: you will need to fill them with stones or legumes and tie them around the wrists or ankles.
