As of Wednesday, 346 people were admitted with covid in hospital, while they were on average 321.9 per day between November 25, an increase of 9% compared to the previous reference period, according to figures from the Institute of Public Health Sciensano updated Thursday morning.
All indicators continue to increase, except for a very slight drop in the virus reproduction rate, which is now 1.06 (-6%). When it is greater than 1, however, this indicator means that the epidemic is still tending to accelerate.
Between 22 and 28 November, 17,917 new contaminations for Sars-CoV-2 were tested on average per day, up 11% from the previous week. Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, more than 1.8 million cases of coronavirus infection have been diagnosed.
In total, 3,736 people are still hospitalized due to Covid-19, including 792 patients treated in intensive care.
Over the period studied, 42.4 people died per day on average as a result of the virus (+ 12%), bringing the toll to 27,072 deaths since the start of the health crisis in Belgium.
Some 119,600 tests on average were also performed daily, for a positivity rate of 16.2%. The incidence, which indicates the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 2,067.9 over 14 days.
