Heat wave, recruitment problems and now a major wave of Covid-19. This is the explosive cocktail that does not spare a single hospital establishment in France. HAS Mortagne-au-Perche (Orne)the director has already applied the blue plane at the Ehpad de Mortagne and dreads the high heat which should last all summer.
They could bring new patients (sunstroke, dehydration, etc.) to a hospital already shaken by staff absenteeism, affected by covid.
This is indeed the main problem in the Percheron establishment: the lack of arms.
“The situation is really worrying. Every day we have 2 to 3 caregivers who fall ill, and this has been the case for two weeks. It is no longer the virus itself that hurts the hospital, it is absenteeism. ”
About twenty carers are therefore missing, and “degraded hours” are put in place, that is to say 12-hour days for some. “We try not to call back those who have gone on vacation. The hospital center has chosen to maintain its bed capacity, unlike its neighbors in Orne. Result: its 40 beds are already full on July 14, before the arrival of the heat wave.
Emergency room
Unlike previous waves of Covid, patients affected by the virus are treated by sectors, especially if they come to the hospital for another problem. The reason ? The benefits of the vaccine which made it possible to avoid serious forms.
It’s very clear, we no longer have any patients who are decompensating and who have to be transferred. Revives are no longer overloaded like they used to be. We can therefore treat in any department, except for patients at risk. »
Hervé Levert encourages each immunocompromised patient or patient over the age of 60 to take their booster dose.
On the emergency side, schedules have been planned this year to avoid closures as was the case last year. They should therefore remain open all summer.
