Since January 4, 2022, wearing a mask has been compulsory outdoors in downtown Toulouse. Between January 4 and January 15, the incidence rate fell from 1,383.5 cases tested positive per 100,000 people to 4,008.
Under the impetus of the Omicron variant, much more contagious than the other strains of coronavirus, the incidence rate now exceeds 4,000 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Toulouse.
This is the first time that the threshold for new positive cases has been so high at Toulouse and in the agglomeration.
High incidence rate but less pressure
Toulouse is thus the second metropolis in France where the Covid-19 circulates the most, just behind Lyon (4277) and ahead of Grenoble (3862).
Despite this incidence rate, hospital pressure does not exceed the thresholds reached during the 4th summer wave of 2021.
Specialists explain it by the high level of vaccination and the lower virulence of the Omicron variant.
Back to stadium without limit
On the strength of this observation, the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, spoke on Thursday January 20 and announced what will change in the coming days and weeks. Here is how Toulouse will be affected.
From February 2, 2022, all sports and cultural facilities will be able to accommodate the public without gauge. The supporters of Toulouse Stadium and you TFC will therefore be able to support their favorite teams, always on presentation of a vaccination pass in good and due form.
Yes for concerts, but seated
For concert halls, the gauge will no longer be rigorous either, but initially, only seated concerts will be possible, always on presentation of a vaccination pass.
February 2, 2022 will also sign theat the end of wearing the mask outdoors. As a reminder, in Toulouse the wearing of a mask has been compulsory in the hypercentre since January 4, 2022.
From this date, teleworking will no longer be compulsory as it is currently, but only recommended.
Back to the nightclub
New stage on February 16, 2022, with the lifting of a restriction which should satisfy the owners of Toulouse bars: standing consumption will indeed be authorized again.
Good news also for concert halls like and Bikini Where the zenith, since standing concerts can also resume on this date (mandatory vaccination pass).
And finally it will be a huge relief for night professionals, hard hit since the start of the covid crisis: nightclubs can reopen from February 16, after months and months of closure. As a reminder, the agglomeration of Toulouse has around thirty discotheques and clubs, which represents between 450 and 500 employees. For the moment, the decision to impose the wearing of the mask in the nightclub has not been decided, the vaccination pass will be imperative.
Easing of the protocol at school
Finally, this is news that should delight the little Toulouse residents: the health protocol could be lightened upon returning from the February holidays, therefore on March 7. A reduction which could consist of “the lifting of the wearing of the mask for pupils in elementary schools” or even on “the number of tests or self-tests to be carried out”. These changes are subject to consultation with the health authorities.
