Covid-19 vaccination record holder – Little Bhutan / Article

The small Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan has become the world leader in vaccination against Covid-19. The State Ministry of Health has announced that 90% of the country’s population has already completed the vaccination course.

Unlike in the West, the second dose of vaccine was available much later in Bhutan, which is home to 800,000 people. A unique situation has developed in the country this year – it was able to use about half a million doses in just a few weeks in April after India donated vaccines.

However, when the epidemiological situation in India deteriorated significantly, the next vaccines did not arrive in Bhutan for months. The vaccination course was completed with donations from several western countries in the Covax program.

In Bhutan, the second wave of vaccination took place in just one week.

Significantly, in the small Himalayan country, both the prime minister and the foreign and health ministers are professional medics.
