Gabriela Jiménez, executive director of Immunizations of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), announced that the start of the vaccination process against COVID-19 for adolescents in the age range between 12 and 17 years, scheduled for November, will begin simultaneously throughout the country to avoid the phenomenon of migrations due to vaccines. As recalled at the end of September, a group of people from Lima came to Chincha to apply the doses of Pfizer assigned to the local population.
The official, in an interview with RPP, explained that they are now adjusting the actions to begin the immunization process for this group of minors, and that the final date of the start will be announced in the next few hours. In addition, he specified that they are evaluating whether the immunization will be to all adolescents from 12 to 17 years old or it will be developed in two cuts.
“We are, surely in the following hours, announcing the start in such a way that all regions can start this vaccination simultaneously. This week what has been done is with the batches of vaccines that have arrived, make the distribution in regions and we are checking that all the stock is available. It is a very sensitive group. We know that if we start in some regions and others, there will not be migrations of people and mobilizations. Parents may be taking their children to the other side. For this reason, what we are organizing for the whole country to start the 12 to 17-year-old group simultaneously”, Remarked Jiménez.
“Yes We will be announcing if it will be in two cuts or all [al mismo tiempo]. This organization will allow the whole country to have this vaccine and for the vaccination centers to be visited. We already have the protocol, everything is being ready. This week is tactic. We consider that in November two important activities will be carried out: the closing of the first doses from 12 to 19 years, and the first week the cut-off of the application of the first third doses”he added.
It should be noted that this age group, made up of just over 4.5 million minors, will receive the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only one approved in Peru for use.
They will need to be accompanied by their parents or a proxy. The Ministry of Health has already approved the respective vaccination protocol after discussion with the ethics committee and the expert committee.
