Tijuana.- The new batch of anti-Covid-19 vaccines for children between five and 11 years old does not yet have an arrival date in Baja California, so vaccination remains suspended, indicated the state’s Health Secretary.
On Friday, September 8, the agency reported in a statement that the application of the first batch of three thousand doses of the pediatric Pfizer vaccine had ended.
At the moment, the federal government has not given the official date to send the rest of the 10 thousand doses that would be destined for Baja California.
The increase in Covid-19 cases was the reason why state authorities reactivated vaccination for minors.
In the last 14 days, the Ministry of Health confirmed 917 new cases of Covid-19 and two deaths.
Given this, Abraham Sánchez Frehem, president of the Medical Health Cluster, called on citizens to continue with protective measures to avoid infections and to anticipate government decisions such as the mandatory use of face masks.

“The problem is real, it is present and we all have to take care of ourselves,” he noted.
He pointed out that the population must be aware of a possible contagion of Covid and its variants, if they present any symptoms they must take the test and maintain security measures.
Sánchez Frehem mentioned that Covid-19 has been evolving, so the vaccines initially applied could be insufficient to combat the new variants of the virus.
“The vaccines that originally worked with this virus currently protect very little. In first world countries, vaccines are being developed against the most recent Omicron variants that are present, but if we continue using them against the Wuhan variant that was the original, we are not protecting much,” he mentioned.
As of Friday, September 15, there were 1,164 active cases of Covid-19 in Baja California and three patients remained hospitalized due to complications.
Mexicali concentrated the majority of infections with 633; followed by Tijuana, with 312; Ensenada, with 47; Rosarito Beaches, 57; San Quentin, 25; while Tecate and San Felipe only reported one case.
Authorities continue to recommend frequent hand washing, the use of antibacterial gel, keeping spaces ventilated and the use of face masks remains optional for the population.
